Introduction to Backup & Recovery

The Backup & Recovery service provides a comprehensive and reliable solution for protecting your applications and their data on the Contain Platform. It ensures business continuity by safeguarding your critical workloads against data loss, corruption, or accidental deletion, enabling you to restore your services quickly and confidently.

In a dynamic environment like Kubernetes, protecting your data is paramount. Our Backup & Recovery service provides a robust safety net for both your cluster configurations and the persistent data your applications rely on. By taking regular, automated backups, we ensure that you can recover from failures with minimal downtime.

This service is built on the industry-standard, open-source tool Velero, which is designed specifically for backing up and restoring Kubernetes cluster resources and persistent volumes.

Backed Up Data

The service is designed to capture a complete backup of your applications, which includes two key types of data:

  1. Kubernetes Objects: The declarative state of all your resources within the cluster. This includes Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps, Secrets, and any other standard or custom resources that define your application's architecture.
  2. Persistent Volume Data: A file-system level backup of the actual data stored in your persistent volumes. This process copies the data file by file, ensuring that stateful applications, such as databases or file stores, can be restored to a consistent point in time.
